Spring Cleaning Tips for Your Appliances

Which Ones Should You Target First?

It’s that time of year again! Spring is in the air, and with it comes the urge to clean everything in sight. This includes your appliances! A little bit of TLC can go a long way in keeping them running smoothly all year long. This blog post will discuss some tips for spring cleaning your appliances. Keep reading to learn more!

Properly Clean Your Refrigerator

The refrigerator is one of the most essential appliances in your home, so it’s important to keep it clean!

Start by removing everything from the inside and wipe down all surfaces with a warm, soapy cloth. Be sure to pay special attention to the shelves and the door. Next, use a vacuum cleaner to remove any dirt or debris from the inside of the refrigerator.

Finally, use a second damp cloth to wipe down the condenser coil at the back of the refrigerator. This is an important step, as it helps keep the fridge running efficiently. If you’re feeling especially energetic, add new containers for keeping condiment bottles together or splurge for a few wipeable refrigerator shelf mats to keep future spills contained.

Disinfect Your Dishwasher

There’s a false belief that your dishwasher gets sanitized each time you run a load of dishes. In reality, unless you clean it regularly, your appliance can become a breeding ground for bacteria.

Start by removing the filters and spraying them down with a disinfectant cleaner. Next, fill the dishwasher with hot water and add two cups of white vinegar. Run the dishwasher on its hottest setting, and then let it air-dry. Finally, replace the filters and run a load of dishes to finish the job.

Clean Your Oven

The oven is another appliance that can quickly become dirty over time. And, unlike the dishwasher or refrigerator, it’s not always easy to maintain.

Start by removing all of the racks and spraying them down with a cleaner. Next, fill a spray bottle with vinegar and water and mist down the inside of the oven. Let the vinegar sit for a few minutes, then scrub it clean with a sponge. Finally, rinse everything off with hot water and replace the racks.

Clean Your Washing Machine

Like the dishwasher, there’s a misconception that washing machines clean themselves. There are actually a few more steps to help eliminate mold, mildew, and grime.

Start by removing the drain hose and spraying it down with a cleaner. Next, fill the washing machine with hot water and add two cups of white vinegar. Run the machine on its hottest setting, then let it air-dry. Finally, replace the drain hose and run a load of towels to wrap up the job.

Bonus Tip: If you have a front-loading washing machine, be sure to clean the gasket regularly with a damp cloth. This will help keep the door seal tight and prevent water from leaking out.

Don’t Forget Your Dryer!

Most people overlook their clothes dryer when it comes to spring cleaning, but it’s just as important as the other appliances in your home.

Remove the lint trap, spray it with cleaner, and wipe away the grime. Next, vacuum the inside of the dryer. Finally, use a damp cloth to wipe down the outside of the machine. Be sure to allow it to air-dry before putting it back into use.
