Is It Time for A New Washing Machine?

|

While doing your laundry isn’t necessarily considered “fun”, it should be fairly easy, right? You simply throw your clothes inside the machine, put the detergent in, and turn the dial to your preferred setting. That’s until you run into major issues with your washing machine that prevent you from doing your laundry.

We don’t realize how much of a luxury appliances like our washing machines are until something goes wrong and we can’t use them. In this blog, we’re sharing the telltale signs that it might be time for a new washing machine. Keep reading to find out!

Leaking

If you notice your washing machine is leaking, this is a very obvious sign something is wrong. Typically, leaking signals to the washer being overflowed with a load or a loose hose.

Try putting in a lighter load during your next cycle to see if the leaking continues. If it does, the hose connected to the back of your machine has probably gone through its general wear and tear and became loose. If this is the case for you, give Atlantic Coast Appliance a call and we’ll come diagnose the issue for you. There are times where a replacement hose could be a solution, but other times a new washing machine might be needed.

Unusual Noises

In general, washing machines aren’t necessarily quiet. You’ll typically hear the washer running when you have a load of clothes being washed. However, if your washer is making noises you’ve never heard before, similar to an airplane taking flight, there is something wrong. Oftentimes, you might need to just rearrange the clothes in the machine as they could have been causing an imbalance, but if that doesn’t work, it’s time to call us at (904) 906-3595. The unusual noises could lead to the fact that your motor mount or drum need to be tightened.

Water Isn’t Filling the Drum

It’s no secret that when you wash clothes, your washing machine fills with water. If this isn’t happening, it could be one of the problems below:

  • Delayed cycle selection
  • Kink in your house
  • Issue with your hot and cold water faucets

If you know none of these are causing the issue, there could be a problem with your water intake valve, which requires professional attention.

Old Age

While most washing machines can last up to 11 years, it’s a good idea to begin looking into replacements a few years before that. The older your washer gets, the more repairs it will need towards the end of its lifespan, and the cost of the repairs can quickly add up.

If you’re starting to realize that you’ve been putting in a lot of money towards repairs, that money is better off being invested into a newer model. Even though washing machines are quite the expense, you’ll be saving money in the long run because newer models are much more water and energy efficient than older models.

Excessive Movement

When washing machines are spinning, it’s normal to notice a gentle shake throughout the unit. But if the movement is excessive during a cycle, such as swaying from side to side, you need to make sure that the washer is fully balanced on the floor and its feet are level. If the excessive movement continues after making sure the washer is level, it can become loose from all of its connections. This is a sign that a new washer is needed in the near future.

If you’re noticing any of the above issues with your washing machine, don’t try any DIY repairs at home! It’s always best to get a professional opinion to prevent any further damage to your unit.
